17 years after the last installment, our star Miami cops are back, older and I dare say, better.

To enjoy Bad Boys for Life thoroughly is to stick to the number one rule for watching any action flick- leave your common sense at the cinema door! This installment makes a strong case for predictability but, it’s frankly difficult to stand before myself and judge anything that stars Will Smith or Martin Lawrence.

Like every franchise especially one that tries to showcase the coming of age phenomenon, Bad Boys For Life attempts to hoodwink us with a story that tries to make sense of Marcus and Mike’s lives after menopause and the loss of toned muscles. Marcus excitedly prepares for his new life as a grandad while Mike suffers some sort of mid-life crisis displayed by him making an embarrassing case about Marcus’ sexless marriage.

This installment directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah tries to push the idea of family as its core theme while showcasing as much carnage as it can manage. I got a full dose of explosions, car crashes, gun shots and blood, all which make up for the barely practical story and sorely predictable plot. Following a failed attempt on his his life, Mike and a barely willing Marcus embark on a little too late trip to Mexico in search of the voodoo practicing wife of a deceased drug lord who interestingly shares a special relationship with Mike.

This movie’s catch is its humor regardless of how cheesy and sometimes cliche the dialogues are. Lawrence maintains his robust comic style which is one of the movie’s saving graces. Others might include the fight stunts and seeing Smith jump off rooftops, ride bikes and probably that fall from a chopper . I’ll happily insert my “Black don’t Crack” slogan here!

Again, paying any level of attention to the Bad Boys For Life‘s story, conflict and resolution will, I guarantee, wear you out. Do not attempt to connect the dots or ask questions. Just enjoy the undemanding humor and the nostalgia of reuniting with our favorite Miami cops.

If you are reading this, I’m super glad and excited to welcome you to my world. There are two things I simply can’t do without; writing and watching movies. Movie reviewing for me is an opportunity to do both. I simply watch movies and let my readers see these movies through my objective lens.
