If you are ever going to judge anything by its cover or in this case, trailer, it most definitely shouldn’t be Three Thieves. The trailer would almost convince you that you are in for another one of Nollywood’s tactless comedies that unamusingly attempts to steal the interest of cinephiles by showcasing a good number of Instagram comedy skit creators.

If you are about to make the grave mistake… Stop! Retrace those steps as Three Thieves is a Nollywood rarity. How?

Convincing people to laugh is tough and serious business. Creating seamless humor while delivering a flawless story is genius and something we don’t get a lot of in Nollywood.

The Udoka Oyeka directed screenplay tells the story of the typical Nigerian hustle but it is in no way the typical Nigerian story. It follows three friends, Rukevwe (Frank Donga), Tega (Koye “K10” Kekere-Ekun) and Oreva (Shawn Faqua) who accidentally get involved in a heist.

The audience is going to love this comic trio for their chemistry. The lead actors maintain a synergy that’ll almost convince you that they are real-life idiots.

While there’s humor in abundance, the message leaves no question. Every subject matter that it touches, it more than delivers. Take crime for instance. While this theme was spawned to create the major conflict and on its back rode the numerous LMAO moments, the message at its resolution was clear- you can’t get away with committing a crime.

Impressive cinematography is another box that Three Thieves ticks. The detailed attention to picture quality, camera angles culminated to the overall outcome of the movie.

But…

The movie didn’t start with a bang! The first few scenes miss the humor mark, not for the lack of good acting but largely for the lack of a quick establishment of some kind of trajectory. All that Pom pom-pom, Pim-pim-pim might guarantee a smile but nothing more. Thankfully, it went by fast enough.

Three Thieves opens in cinemas nationwide on October 4th, tick your calendars NOW!
