How well do you know the Ocean’s series?
Action, Adventure, Comedy
Ocean’s 8 joins the Ocean’s franchise as its fourth installment since its 2001 debut.
As always, the Ocean’s series is heist themed and this installment makes no attempt to change the narrative. The thrill however, is that Ocean’s 8 takes a long walk from its predominately male cast of previous installments to a predominately female cast movie. What to expect?
Some laughs, a lackadaisical vibe that only Rihanna plus her fat blunt can pull off, a not so convincing heist story, a lot of technological advancement update, some more laughs and a barely convincing Irish accent!
Serena Williams and Kim Kardashian take on waka pass roles and James Corden does a little bit more than the waka pass.
It’s all about Girl Power in Ocean’s 8. From the story to the dialogue, its obvious the filmmakers planned to sell the “what a man can do…” card. Was that strategy a success? You bet it was! Ocean’s 8 made $41.50 million in its opening week in box office.
Sadly, Ocean’s 8 is 110 minutes of Overrated same ol Hollywood action plot. It’s like seeing any of the Fast and Furious installments- an absolute waste of time! There isn’t anything new or exciting. Not with the disappointing flops the movie recorded.
If you are hoping to see Rihanna pull some bad-ass theatrical stunt, you might as well stick to watching her music videos. Rihanna’s character, 9 Ball makes a mess of convincing even herself that she can be a hacker.
This blockbuster will try to convince you through its trailers, snippets and all the buzz its been generating on social media, of the folly of not seeing it. If you choose to, this is what you should believe:
⁃ Stealing a fiercely guarded $150 billion Cartier necklace is possible thanks to modern technology
⁃ Crime is hereditary and we have the crime loving Ocean family to exalt for this assertion
⁃ Women can get away with just about anything. In this case, it’s the impossible theft of the Toussaint. Let’s recall the lines of Debbie Ocean : “A Him gets noticed. A her gets ignored”.
⁃ Irish accents have American sounding variants. Look to Rose Weil (Helena Bonham Carter)’s frightful accent switch for all the entertainment you can find.
⁃ Thanks to 3D technology and Scanning glasses, anything can be cloned.
⁃ Smoking king size blunts is the secret behind the success of some of the world most dreadful hackers.
⁃ Women never detach emotions from business. Stealing the necklace was enough. Turning the brilliant theft into a revenge based plan was unnecessary and too easy.
– Anne Hattaway is an amazing actress. Just about the only actress who didn’t falter for a second. Her character is unassuming. You’d have to wait till the end to realize that she is in fact the most important part of the Ocean’s 8.
Chances are, you might find the movie a bit of a drag. it’s to be expected if at some point, you start to fiddle with your phone. Know this- you are not alone! The tempo of the movie is a head spinner.
If you fall in the category that will find this movie entertaining, its OK. I did too athough more entertained by the trailers and social media buzz than the movie itself. But, you really should. In the end, it’s not and never is that serious!
