Get me into the mind of a #MeToo advocate who doubles as an Action flick lover, Tada...✨✨ ANNA is served!

Action movie fans are definitely going to enjoy Luc Besson‘s latest film. Sadly, this impressive picture is jinxed!

The dark cloud hovering over Anna has everything to do with the film’s creator, Luc Besson, and his recent sexual assault scandal.

Although not proven guilty, Besson isn’t exactly everyone’s favorite guy at the moment. It’s understandable why the production team did little to no promotional activity pre-release and post-release. We certainly don’t need an accused sex offender selling gender equality to us.

In between the rollercoaster-like ride of foreshadowing and flashbacks, Anna follows the tale of an orphaned Russian model ( Sasha Luss) who becomes a ruthless undercover Assassin working for the KGB.

The most recurring idea in Anna is that of freedom. Anna (Sasha Luss) kills, maims and eventually manipulates the Russian and American governments just to have a taste of its feel on her bald scalp.

Another favorite angle is how she seeks freedom primarily from patriarchy represented by characters like Vassiliev ( Eric Godson), Lenny Miller ( Cillian Murphy) , Alex Tchenkov ( Luke Evans) and her abusive ex.

Anna is almost perfect if you appreciate it for its apt delivery of all the things we love about action flicks. The story is also impressive for its plot twists and narrative techniques.

However, Its biggest imperfection is probably the development of its lead character. Anna is a desperate attempt to create that rounded millennial woman. She’s strong, seeking absolute independence from patriarchy, sexually liberated (bisexual) and drop-dead gorgeous. In the end, it seemed like a very unrealistic balance that left Luss looking like a 2-year-old wearing a 22-inch lace wig.
