The Exaltation of Slut-Shaming in my Country is Appalling!

The irreparable damage of corruption in my country is one thing but the exaltation of Slut-Shaming is honestly becoming another thorn in the flesh.

Slut-Shaming
Sorry, I forgot to add…This is a RANT!!

Barely two weeks ago, my friends and I got into near blows with this Okada aboki who was acting up. We had a disagreement with the fare and the next thing the guy goes “Ashawo”! I was berserk for a full 20 minutes. I wanted to know why of all the insults to hurl our way, he had to pick up that slur. As is my style, I took to my social media platforms to rant about it and let it go but sadly, I have to resurrect it.

Earlier today, I stumbled on this post on Instablog of an uncouth Instagram user who joined the endless list of Nigerians shading singer, Oritsefemi for his careless tweets.

See controversial tweet:

I confess that I found the trailer load of insults hilarious but for this particular one. The Massa decided to recount how in his demented world, Oritsefemi’s wife was a prostitute in the streets of Ikeja.

I am so disgusted at this attitude of Slut-Shaming fully endorsed by 75 percent of both the literate and illiterate class of Nigerian men . Please does calling a woman a prostitute give you guys some sort of satisfaction?

While Nabila has gone ahead to address the issue, it appears that nothing is being done to seriously tackle this menace. If a woman works hard, makes her own money, Nigerian men and even women would rather deplete their baggage of ignorant stupidity by accusing her of sleeping with a man (men) to acquire the wealth.

A lady sits pretty and she is accused of being a slut. Not to drag a dead horse but even Teebillz with all his exposure had to accuse Tiwa Savage of sleeping with other men in their 2016 drama.

Slut-Shaming has to stop in 2018 by hook or by crook. If the government is too busy to pay attention to stopping Slut-Shaming and classifying it as a medium of violence/abuse against women then women should take it upon themselves to deal mercilessly with men who derive joy in Slut-Shaming women. We can take a cue from Amber Rose:

Slut-Shaming

We can take another cue from the people of Ashanti. I once learnt from an Ashanti friend of mine that it is forbidden to Slut-Shame a woman especially with the term “Ashawo”. According to him, any man who says that to a woman brings a curse upon himself. He dies if he ever has intercourse with a woman.

I don’t know how factual that tale is because we were having a few drinks that evening but my really exposed readers could help out by commenting BELOW!

With that cleared out, yours sincerely has vowed to take drastic measures to attack Slut-Shaming. I went on an insult spree a few hours ago and I will go harder on any man who thinks it proper to Slut-Shame me in 2018!

  1. I followed the thread last night. But I was late to the party. Before I arrived, I saw you licking mouth like a dog that just devoured its target. So, I knew there was no point. You finished it well. The slut shaming is on another level. I still don’t understand how his wife bacme the crux of the matter. To think that many women on that comment thread had nothing to do but make joke of it all weakens me. In 2018, I’m definitely not taking that stupidity from anyone.
